Groups

A group is a room with its own chat, its own discussions and its own library. There is one official space that every member is in, and any number of private groups that exist only for the people invited to them.

The official space

Everyone with community access is a member of the official space, and it sits at the top of the community home. It is moderated by Whispertrades rather than by members, and its announcements channel is locked so that only Whispertrades posts there. Everything else in it is open.

Private groups

Private groups are invite only. Nothing in one is visible to anybody who is not a member, and the group does not appear to anyone else.

Create one from the Groups page with a name and an optional description. Whoever creates it is its owner.

Inside a group

A group has up to five tabs:

Chat. Channels for fast, plain conversation.
Discussions. Longer threads worth keeping and coming back to.
Library. What has been shared with this group: backtests, reports, bots and the rest.
Activity. What members of this group are trading, if the group has that turned on.
Members. Who is here, and their roles.

Owners choose whether the group has chat, discussions or both, so a group that only wants one is not left carrying an empty tab.

Channels

Chat is organised into channels, which owners and moderators can create, rename, reorder and group into categories.

A group always keeps at least one channel members can post in, so a room can never be left readable but unanswerable.

Deleting a channel retires it. It disappears from the group for everybody, and it stays on record where only Whispertrades staff can read it. Nobody below staff can erase the history of a conversation that happened.

A group has exactly one owner. Ownership moves only by transfer, and when it does the previous owner stays on as a moderator, since they know the group best.

Invitations

Owners and moderators invite members by handle. An invitation waits on the invitee's Groups page, where they can accept or decline, and whoever sent it can cancel it while it is still pending.

The Activity tab

A group can show what its members are trading. The owner chooses how much:

Setting	What members see
Nothing	The tab is not offered at all.
Positions	The position history, open and closed, of members who share their positions with this group or with the whole community. No performance figures.
Performance	The track records and account pulses of members who publish them.
Positions and performance	Both of the above on one tab.

This tab never reveals anything a member has not already shared. It gathers what members chose to share with the group or with the community; it does not reach into anybody's account.

Turning this on does not share anything on anyone's behalf. A member appears on the tab only because they already chose to share their positions or publish their performance, and the audience they chose still decides who can see it.

Notifications for a group

Each group has its own notification setting, so a busy room does not have to be as loud as a quiet one:

Off. Nothing from this group lights the dot.
All new messages. Every new message in every channel.
Specific channels. Only the channels you tick.

You are notified when somebody mentions you whatever this is set to.

Anything you can share can be shared with a group as its audience, and each group gets its own disclosure settings. See Sharing Your Work.

Leaving and deleting

Any member can leave a group at any time. Anything you shared with that group as its audience stops reaching it when you go.

Only the owner can delete a group. If you want a group to continue without you, transfer ownership rather than deleting it.

Moderation inside a group

A group's owner and moderators can remove content from their own room. Removed content stops being readable by members, and Whispertrades retains a record of it for moderation review. Only Whispertrades staff can erase it entirely.

The Community Guidelines apply inside private groups exactly as they do everywhere else, and any member can report content in one.
