Bot Positions

Refer to the following information to manage positions that are currently open by your bot.

Manually Open a Position

If you would like to manually enter a new bot position, you may do so by viewing the bot and clicking Enter New Position at the top:

You can also do this from the dropdown on your bot listing:

Here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to manually entering a new position:

  • The bot must be Enabled to enter a new position. You cannot enter a new position if the bot is Disable on Close or Disabled.
  • The bot will use its configured target strike(s) and expiration on the entry conditions
  • Any entry filters like max entries per day, day of week, earliest/latest entry time, market conditions, or variables are ignored
  • If your bot already has one open position, this will enter a second position. If your bot already has two open positions, you cannot enter a third position. Each bot can still only carry two positions simultaneously.

Manually Close a Position

If you have a bot position open that you would like to immediately close, you may do so from your Whispertrades account. Never manually close a Whispertrades position directly from your brokerage account.

To close a current position from your Whispertrades account, view the bot position info, and click the red "Close Position" button at the top (only visible if the market is currently open):

You will then be prompted to confirm you wish to close. You can either close part or all of the position. After you confirm, Whispertrades will immediately issue an order to close your position at the best available price.

You can also manually close any position by using the close button next to the position in the position list:

When closing a ratio position (where different legs have different quantities), you must close the entire position. Ratios do not support partial closures.

Close ALL Positions

If you would like to close ALL bot positions managed by Whispertrades, you can click the Close ALL Positions button at the top of your position listing.

If this bot has a profit target, you'll be prompted to either use the profit target or enter your own price. Once you confirm, your bot will submit a new closing order for your with the designated price and cancel prior orders should there be any.

Adjust Price for Closing Order

You can change the price for a Whispertrades closing order by viewing the order in your Whispertrades account, adjusting the price on screen, and clicking "Cancel & Replace". This will cancel your current order and place a new order with your specified price. This is only available for working closing orders.

You can also quickly change multiple bot orders directly in your order list by typing over the current order prices:

Mark a Position as Closed

As often as possible, you should always let your bot manage positions that it originally opened. If you wish to close a position early, outside of a bot automation, view the position at Whispertrades and ask the bot to close the position (using the "Close Position" button pictured below) instead of closing it on your own in your brokerage account.

In the event that you close a position in your brokerage account, whether intentionally or by accident, you can mark that position as closed at Whispertrades so that Whispertrades knows the exit price and also will not attempt any automations on a position that no longer exists.

To mark a position as closed, view the position at Whispertrades and then click "Mark Position Closed" at the top of the screen:

You'll be prompted for the exit price. Enter that, click Confirm, and Whispertrades will mark that position as closed and not look for or touch any contracts that may remain in your brokerage account. The bot will be ready to enter a new position whenever its entry criteria are met.
